A fugitive Ugandan prison warder accused of killing four people at Kiboga Central Prison has been arrested in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) after weeks of evading authorities.
The suspect, identified as Moses Anguyo, was apprehended in Aru town during a joint security operation involving Ugandan police and prison officers. Authorities say the arrest was made following intelligence gathered from individuals close to the suspect, including relatives who had earlier been detained to assist with investigations.
Officials confirmed that arrangements are underway to extradite the suspect back to Uganda, where he will face multiple charges related to the deadly shooting.
The arrest follows a nationwide manhunt launched after the February 23 incident at Kiboga Central Prison, where Anguyo allegedly opened fire during a routine inspection. The attack resulted in the deaths of four people, including senior prison officers and a civilian.
Authorities had previously announced a cash reward for information leading to the suspect’s capture, highlighting the seriousness of the case and the urgency to bring him to justice.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the shooting may have been triggered by a workplace dispute after the warder was reprimanded for misconduct while on duty. Investigators are also examining possible underlying frustrations related to his career progression.
The case has raised concerns about security within Uganda’s prison system and the need for stronger oversight to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Further updates are expected as the extradition process progresses and legal proceedings begin in Uganda.
